Trump's Policies Lead to Unemployment in Northern Mexico

Mexico, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) Although official data indicate that January was a month of job creation in Mexico, the contrary happened in the border ending 2016 due to the actions and threats by U.S. President, Donald Trump. As a result of Trump effect, about 12,228 jobs were lost in November and December in U.S. companies based in Ciudad Juarez (border), representing the largest drop in that sector in the last 16 years. Jobs decreased in that period from 435,511 to 423,283, according to figures from the Mexican Social Security Institute. The transformation industry sector was the one that lost more labor places, going from 291,261 to 280,032, a four-percent reduction. The Maquiladora Association in Juarez attributed the decline in jobs to factors such as anti-free trade policies announced by the U.S. president, who even threatened to impose tariffs on companies that export to his country from Mexico.
